My students are amazing artists! I would like spark their creativity by using new and exciting materials in the classroom. Unfortunately, I am limited to using basic materials such as markers and crayons for most of our projects, which can be monotonous.
My art students are from low income families and have very limited access to luxuries that you and I often take for granted.
My students and their families don't always have the essentials such as food and clothing. My students do not have access to museums and travel where learning about culture and art is rooted.
My Project
By the time students get to middle school art they are ready to use more sophisticated materials to create beautiful pieces of art.
One of the challenges I face as an art educator is not having enough materials for an entire class to use at once.
My students need Xacto knives so that they can create projects that require intricately cut pieces. From school dance decorations to art projects, this little tool goes a long way! Currently I only have three and students have to wait their turn to use them. The cutting mats will be used to protect the desks and the students hands.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
