My students need a xylophone to help them become well rounded percussionists! It is an important instrument for beginners learn to read music with the rest of the band.

My Students

With no budget for buying new instruments in my middle school band, the percussion (drums) section has been overlooked and under-served for way too long! Please help these beginning percussionists start off with a well rounded instrumental education by helping us buy them a xylophone!

There are over 800 students in our urban middle school and we have great cultural diversity.

Over 85% of our students are eligible for free or reduced cost lunch. Within our school there is a smaller academy consisting of about 146 students all of which must be in the band program! My band students are academically accelerated and highly motivated. Our school band has recently expanded to include 6th grade students, adding 48 students to our roster. In my band, "I want to play the drums" is the most popular request when choosing an instrument for the first time. Being in the percussion section is very popular, and we need a xylophone to give these students a purpose in learning to read music and a stronger sense of participation in the band. Please help us support our growing music program by helping us buy a xylophone! Thanks to Donorschoose and our many supporters, our music program is growing and thriving!

My Project

This is a high quality student xylophone that will be used by a countless number of students in our band as it will be used for many years. It will serve as a tool for my percussionists to learn to read notes, expanding their musical experience and sensitivity as well as adding another layer to the band's great sound. It is a versatile instrument and we will be able to incorporate it into each of our 6th, 7th & 8th grade ensembles, jazz band and smaller chamber ensembles. Please help us buy this amazing instrument! My percussion students are some of the most excited and dedicated kids in the band. Their level of commitment and musicianship deserves to be challenged and expanded daily. By helping us buy this Yamaha 3.5 octave standard padauk xylophone, you will be giving my students an entirely new and rewarding musical experience they would otherwise be missing out on!
