I am volunteering as a mentor for our school's robotics team. The team has existed for almost 30 years, and has a long history of creating opportunities for Rochester City School District Students. The students who join the club range from nerdy introverts to cool kids, and this is a space where they are all validated in their intellectual pursuits. These Lenovo ThinkPad X1s will allow the students to pursue their programming more efficiently and with less frustration.

In just my second year, I am amazed by the growth of the students in both their computing/engineering skills as well as their people and speaking skills.
Over the X-Cats 30 years of existence the software development landscape has changed dramatically. For most of our history we’ve worked with laptops that were 7-10 years out of date, struggling with long compile times and slow development tools. Inspiring under served students to pursue careers in software or computer science while dealing with such slow hardware is extremely challenging, as the old computers prove an obstacle to learning.
Please help us provide our students with computers that work efficiently so that they are not frustrated by the slow speeds. It will not only help us do better in the competition, it will give our students more inspiration for pursuing careers in technology. We got one new computer last year and with these Acer laptops, the student experience will be vastly improved.
