This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students need a voice! They need writing journals in order to express themselves.
My students are from a low income neighborhood.
They are bright, interested learners who need tools of the trade. Many do not have access to the Internet, and families are concentrating on purchasing food rather than school items. Giving them school items that they can call their own would make a big impact on them.
My Project
I am currently a "fellow" in the writer's summer institute for teachers at CSUN. I am excited to learn more about writing in the classroom. I am then going to take my experience from the institute and apply it to the classroom. Writing journals would be an excellent tool in creating a writer's environment. Each student having their own journal to keep forever.
Students need to feel empowered, and they all need to have a voice.
Using writing journals in the classroom would teach these students how to be authors, have a voice, and be strong students for future assignments. Please give these students a voice!
Nearly all students from low‑income households
