This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Do you remember being passed out a piece of notebook paper and being asked to write a creative story? Do you remember coming up with nothing! My students need a motivation to explore and be creative in writing. With your help we can achieve this goal!

I teach in an urban school district that faces many challenges.

I am a 4th grade ESL/Language Arts teacher. My school is the largest elementary school in the state of Texas. We usually have between 1200 to 1400 students! 85 percent of our students are on free/reduced lunch and are considered low-socioeconomic. I currently serve three classes of approximately 25 per class Many of my students are facing academic challenges due to their backgrounds and home lives. Among these challenges are dyslexia, slow-learners, learning disabilities, and language. I also have students who are on grade-level that would benefit from this enrichment. I am determined to meet the needs of all my students.

My Project

Robert Fukghum quoted that imagination is stronger than knowledge. Knowledge is powerful, but imagination can take you places! In this day and time kids rarely use their imaginations. With these items I'll be able to create a special nook in the classroom that will allow them to use their imagination to create wonderful stories. There is already a "Meet the Author" bookshelf in the area. As my students sit on their bean bags writing on colorful paper, I want them to see themselves as authors!

Writing is so important.

It allows the students to express themselves in a way that they might not be able to do verbally. With your help, my kids will be able to write in a fun, creative way! What kid wouldn't want to sit on a bean bag and use their imagination to create awesome stories. For some of my kids, imagination is all they have. I would like to thank you in advance for your support.
