My Students
Our school is located in a neighborhood where students walk to school from a public housing project and surrounding neighborhoods. Students in my school come from various economic backgrounds and family dynamics. Most are from single-family homes with several school age children. All students in my school qualify to receive free breakfast and lunch through the National School Lunch Program.
My students are fervent, adventurous, creative, and eager, yet they lack necessary school supplies that would help propel their writing experience.
My Project
Writing improves communication skills, encourages creativity and exploration, and helps teachers assess students' learning. Furthermore, it is an outlet for great imaginations. However, writing is not used just for imagination purposes. It can be used as a form of therapy or a way to help students understand or make sense of the world around them.
Help me create an assigned area that would improve communication skills and cultivate rich imaginations that can come to life through writing.
My students need writing tools( dry erase markers, crayons, color pencils) and materials to let their creativity flow. I will use the Dry Post-it Super Sticky Easel Pad to create anchor charts and model writing techniques for students. Dry Erase Sentence Strip and markers will be used by students during the writing workshop to map out ideas.
As with any learning center, organization is very important. The Writing Caddy will be used to hold writing supplies so that students can have everything they need at their fingertips. The sheet protectors and file folders will be used to keep students' writing organized.
