My Students

As a teacher in a school community with a significant rate of low-income and at-risk students, I seek to provide them with engaging and rigorous activities in the classroom.

It is my goal that complex texts and tasks will establish skills that all my students can translate to a global economy.

All of my students are unique individuals with exuberant personalities and by making content relevant, I can engage them in learning skills that are meaningful to both a college and career setting.

My Project

Writing is a form of expression. Often, my students are asked to express themselves through argumentation - whether written (essays) or verbal (classroom debates). However, my students often lack the knowledge or development of voice in their writing needed to express themselves.

The text, They Say/I Say: The Moves that Matter in Academic Writing, will help my students to develop their voices as writers and in turn better express themselves.

We will use the text as a companion throughout the year to help us navigate the world of academic writing and learn how to become better writers through master examples.
