At the present time I’m teaching second grade. There are 25 students in my classroom who range in ages from 7 to 8 years old. My students come from a variety of different races, religions and cultures. Some of my student’s have various disabilities.
Excited to be in second grade, that’s how I would explain my second graders.
They get really excited when I inform them that we are going to learn something new today. Their eyes get wide and they start to wiggle around in their seats waiting in excitement to find what the new lesson will be.
Obtaining the slant boards will provide my second grade students with an alternative surface on which they can practice writing. I would love to see my students working on a slant board as an alternative to working on horizontal surfaces. For many children, it is easier to see and use their eyes smoothly while working on a vertical surface. For example, a slant board can be a great help when reading books. Working on a vertical surface also requires the use of a different set of trunk and upper extremities, which encourages better posture and shoulder control. Also, there is an extra bonus, drawing and painting on a slant board (vertical surface) will actually encourage grasp strength and promote better hand writing skills! WOW!
