This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are developing a love for reading and writing through small group instruction. They come to guided reading excited to learn! However, many students lack basic supplies necessary to become successful students. Many students come from low-income families and are not prepared for class with necessary basic materials, such as pens and pencils. I would really like to be able to supply these students with some new supplies to keep them motivated! New writing materials would benefit everyone in my literacy classes!
My Project
Brand new writing tools will help my students be the best authors they can be! The materials will be used to color-code students’ short response answers. Students write their claim in blue, evidence in green and conclusion sentence in red. Writing clear short response answers are an important skill students need to master. The New York State ELA Exam also requires students to write short response answers to assess students’ comprehension of the text. My students will also be able to publish their reading responses with colorful illustrations. New pencils, new pens, new markers, and a new sharpener, that doesn’t burn out, would really help the students stay motivated!
