This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students have come into high school behind grade level but these students are not quitters. We have a strong culture of achievement and encourage all students to prepare for and apply to college.
Were you to walk down the halls of my school, you might think you are in the United Nations.
We have students from five continents (and more than that from a number of islands) representing a diverse array of languages and cultures. My students are a mix of new immigrants and native-born Americans. All of them want to succeed.
My Project
The days of laborious handwriting sessions in public schools appear to be behind us. Many of my students struggle with the fine motor skills of clear handwriting. But I have found that I can engage some student interest in handwriting by introducing them to the art of calligraphy.
My project requests a number of supply items for our calligraphy pens.
I am asking for ink cartridges and ink refill converters for pens. I am also asking for some fine point mechanical pencils, for roughing out designs. Last, I am asking for magnets to help me display student work on the front and side boards of our room.
