My colleague and I are the proud teachers of 7-9 year-old Second Graders with a variety of cognitive abilities. They come to us with open hearts and are full of curiosity. They are whimsical, precocious and have a strong sense of identity. Our students are verbal, opinionated and are ready to make their voices heard.
We are a small school and we view our students as our Shining All Stars whose bulbs we want to keep very bright.
.
Inquisitive, animated, and stimulating ; our Second Graders are rarin' to go! Our Second Grade All Stars immerse themselves in the business of School and all that it has to offer.
My Project
The materials and supplies that I am requesting for our students are essential to help them to take their writing to the next level. We need help to make our Writing Centers Flourish. The writing folders, markers, colored bins and dry erase boards are to be shared between the two Second Grades. We work in small groups so learning can be optimal and the small group easels and charts are a visual tool to help struggling readers and writers. We have a Writing Center with no supplies. These materials are essential to help us facilitate and teach concretely the Writing Process.
The donations to this project will help our struggling students grasp what it entails to be a bona fide author and illustrator and to truly understand the Writing Process in its entirety.
By implementing the Writer's Workshop model, my students will begin to see themselves as true to life authors and illustrators. We will use these materials to assist us in the process of teaching our students to becoming lifelong writers. As an educator who has worked with struggling students for many years, I have witnessed where access to concrete materials have allowed students to tap into their creativity in the Writer's Workshop especially in the primary grades. We want our children to have a leveled playing field and truly need your support to make this a reality.
