Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Although I will be looping from preschool to kindergarten with many of my students, I have not yet met many of them! The school I work in has a high number of Latino students, with a growing number of Middle Eastern students too. This past year, every student I taught received free breakfast and lunch. Most are English language learners. Despite cultural and financial challenges, I know that my students can have the same growth mindset and executive functioning skill sets as their weather peers across the bay. Students from this community are more than capable of achieving greatness, and I am excited to foster it.

My Project

I always thought writing was a viewpoint into someone's thoughts, so it's no wonder writing in schools is more emphasized than ever. In kindergarten especially, writing should be fun! Letters, sight words, and reading can easily be taught through the arts too. Unfortunately, many teachers lack the supplies, (which run out constantly), to integrate art into literacy and other subjects.

Donating to this project will ensure my students have fun in the process of learning literacy!

I anticipate these supplies will stretch beyond literacy, and reach other subjects too. The possibilities are endless! I can visualize the students creating letters with the wax sticks, reading sight words to stamp them with the paint dotters, and using craft supplies to illustrate their sentences. I see students painting their words on the easel , etching their name into the rainbow scratch paper, and being excited for our literacy mornings.
