My Students

"The difference between the right word and the almost right word is the difference between lightning and a lightning bug." ~Mark Twain By the end of the year I want my students to develop into great writers. I want them to be able to express themselves and share stories through their writing.

This year I will have twenty-six wonderful students.

Similar to my school, my class will be very diverse, with many of my students having the ability to speak multiple languages. Many of the students in my school speak English as their second language and some of them were born in other countries. In addition to being diverse, my school is a very caring and loving place that is supportive of the needs of the students. They are surrounded my an amazing staff that continuously goes out of their way to not only educate the child academically but teach the child skills that they will need throughout life.

My Project

The Daily Language Practice Journals will be used daily in my classroom. When the students come in at the start of the school day they will unpack their bags, eat their breakfast, and begin their Daily Language Practice Journal. This will allow the students to review previously learned language skills. Once every child has completed their daily page we will review their responses. The Correct the Sentence! Daily Journals will also be used daily. The students will complete their daily page at the start of Writer's Workshop. This will also allow the students to review previously learned grammar and editing skills. After they have completed the activity we will review it. Since the skill will be fresh in their minds they will be better able to apply it to the piece of writing on which they are working.

Donations to this project will help improve my students' writing.

They will get continuous, daily practice on skills that they will be able to apply to their writing and their writing process. The daily journals will also help my students keep track of their work and they will be able to refer back to previous activities while completing a writing piece.
