My students need supplies that will help them with their revising and editing, such as colored correcting pens, chart paper to make anchor charts for the classroom, and whiteboards to practice sentence structures.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are thinkers, readers, leaders, and world changers. In my classroom we reflect on who we are and where we come from in order to better understand how we can shape the future. Each and every one of my students is capable of academic success and life-long success in chasing their dreams, and it is my job to communicate my belief in their abilities and to help them hone the skills they'll need to make their dreams a reality.
I teach at a Title I school in Connecticut where 100 percent of our students receive free breakfast and lunch.
Connecticut is overall a wealthy state, but the educational wealth is unevenly distributed. Schools are still largely segregated, and Connecticut has one of the widest achievement gaps - between schools that serve white students and schools that serve students of color - in the country. My students deserve an excellent education, because they themselves are excellent, and are committed to shaping America into the country they want it to be.
My Project
The supplies I am suggesting are to help me appeal to multiple learning modalities as I teach. More visual learners will benefit from creating and displaying writing anchor charts. The use of whiteboards allows students to diagram sentences, move words around, and edit for spelling and punctuation as we learn more about grammar and mechanics as a whole class. We already have Chromebooks for students who are more comfortable typing - the pens and colored pens are for students who benefit from rewriting and editing by hand.
Overall, the supplies will support my students through the process of writing and rewriting.
They will also help me with assessments. The whiteboards allow me to quickly check for understanding by seeing mistakes and successes as they occur, and allow me to provide more immediate feedback. The folders will help me gather student writing and keep it organized in portfolios so they (and I) can see their progress. Ultimately it is my hope that these supplies will help students to understand that erasing and trying again is all part of the process, and to see their growth over time.
