My students need a laptop to type their research papers on. They work hard on researching topics but we have limited access to word processors in my classroom.
My students come from various backgrounds. Their school is comprised mostly of students who receive free or reduced-price lunch. Some of our students do not have basic personal items for themselves, and we work as a team to provide for these students. They are sweet and respectful students, but need to be shown love from their role models at school. They attend an elementary/junior high school that is made up of K-8th grade students. Our students struggle with getting supplies for everyday use and we struggle to provide manipulatives in the teaching of concepts due to a very limited budget.
My Project
The students have one Chromebook and three desktops in my classroom for students to use to research and type science reports. The problem is that when they need to type their papers I have seven groups of four students that are in need of a word processor and it takes days before I can allow every child a chance to get to the computer. By adding a laptop to the equation I can shorten the process a little bit. My end goal is to have at least three laptops to add to the computers. This will alleviate some of the stress on the students having one word processor per group.
The ability to provide them with a computer per group will allow more time for me to move on to other topics of history instead of spending several extra days of typing research papers.
The students will be less stressed which will create a better environment in the classroom without that tension!
