My Students

I work in a low-income high poverty district.

My students are the children of migrant workers, refugees and parents looking to achieve the American dream. My students are dedicated and eager to learn. They love coming to school every day and doing their best with what they have.

My Project

I will be enhancing my writing program using a variety of methods and media. Children feel more invested in something if they have choices. By providing the choice of different pencils, and journal types, each child will be more comfortable sharing their stories. The various journals will help me differentiate between each child's ability. Each journal will meet a specific need whether they are beginning learners or advanced story tellers.

This project is important to me because I want to instill a love of writing early on for my students.

It is important that they feel comfortable writing and sharing their creations. With your help I hope to develop the next Robert Frost or Maya Angelou...
