Writing Our Way To Learning

My project needs a variety of fun and brightly colored paper, pens, markers, highlighters, blank books and instructional materials.

I am a new teacher with a wonderful 3rd grade class. I teach in a Title 1 school in Keller, Texas. One of the challenges I face as a new teacher is purchasing supplies for my new classroom. Writing instruction is a very important goal in my district and my classroom. Writers Workshop is a block of time devoted to writing. During this time students write, edit, teacher conference, peer conference, publish pieces and share their work. After a 1 minute mini-lesson students apply what they have learned about drafting, editing and revising in their journals. I feel that getting the students writing is the best way to teach them to write. In Writers Workshop students get excited about writing because they are able to use a variety of writing supplies in their writing. Most of the supplies needed for Writers Workshop are not provided by the school. I feel these items are crucial for students’ success in the program. The materials I am requesting will provide my students with an enjoyable and optimal learning environment. I am confident that the Writers Workshop program will increase my student’s enjoyment for writing as well as raise their achievement on various assessments throughout the year.
