Writing Math Virtually

Help me give my students an engaging virtual learning experience with the help of a graphics tablet, wireless mouse, and chart paper to write math equations and draw models to help deepen understanding.

My Students

We are a 5th grade class full of mathematicians and scientists who are eager to use technology in the classroom in the state of Florida. Our school consists of about 25% military students. All students live close enough to school that they can walk and do not need to catch a bus to school.

Each child is excited to be challenged academically.

They are such an extraordinary group of children, and I am lucky to help show them the successful students they can be this year.

My Project

While teaching from home, it can be difficult trying to show examples of how to solve problems when writing work on paper and trying to show it to a camera or taking a picture of it. The graphic tablet will be an exciting and engaging way to write the equations right on the screen to help the students understand the concepts being taught. Students will actually be able to see problems being solved step-by-step in a clear manner.

Online learning can be difficult, but these tools will truly help the students feel like they're back in the classroom.

With the chart paper, I'll be able to create posters and then have them in the background while I am teaching to refer to. The wireless mouse will also give me more access to controlling the programs.

Once we are able to be back in the classroom, all of these tools will be utilized and become even more valuable. Students will love using them to share their thinking!
