This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach third grade at a school with a large percentage of English Language Learners. Writing is difficult for most students, but the challenge is even greater for students who are just learning English.
In the past, I've taught first grade and have created writing journals for my students myself. Now that I am moving to third grade, I expect students to be writing more and therefore making writing journals for them would be very time consuming. I want to create a writing curriculum in which students are writing every day with various topics and forms.
I am therefore requesting journals that cover various forms of writing(free write, poetry, etc.) This will help me create more enthusiastic and reflective writers by creating daily writing activities to meet various needs of interest and ability. I am excited to introduce my students to different forms of writing and letting them explore each form independently. These journals would allow me to spend my time planning these activities instead of making journals. I know that with daily practice and variety, my students would learn to enjoy and excel in writing.
