Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
As the kindergarteners in my class have learned to form letters and sound out words, I have encouraged them to write as much as possible. However, I feel that they would write even more if I could provide them with a center dedicated to writing. Such a center would include a variety of stimulating and interesting supplies and materials.
My kindergarten class in San Francisco's Tenderloin neighborhood consists of 19 English Language Learners and one English-speaking inclusion student. Since nearly all of my students are developing English language skills and do not have exposure to writing activities outside of school, this "center in the classroom" would give them additional time to develop the skills necessary for academic achievement. Let's make great writers!
