My Students

"What are we going to do Today?" is a question I am asked before each class I teach. My students are excited to be challenged, learn something new and share their education with the world. Many of the students come from difficult backgrounds and they spend their days overcoming those obstacles which prevent them from learning to their greatest potential.

Every student I teach is receiving special education services, and they all have different needs and learning styles.

Regardless of their disabilities, they strive to learn. Many of them juggle family responsibilities, jobs and school. The goal in my classroom is to take each individual students' gifts and give them wings to fly.

My Project

The Chromebooks being requested will be used for teaching essay writing to at risk, special education students who plan to attend college. The resources that I am requesting are necessary to compete with surrounding school districts that have the financial support available to help their students. I will instruct my students on the use of research engines, programs such as Google Docs, working cooperatively online and most importantly, essay writing. Many of my students need a level playing field and these Chromebooks, along with instruction to help them achieve their personal goals, including college and compete with more affluent districts.

With direct instruction on essay writing, different types of writing, and how to write an essay on a computer, students will be better prepared to attend college, which is one of the ultimate goals.

Using computers will give the students the ability to write, allowing them to excel in a technologically-based society. Learning to use computers to enhance writing skills, learning the devices within word processing, and using those skills within the structure of an essay will better prepare them for success for their post-secondary adventures. With this monetary support, you can help these students achieve levels of education that they have only dreamed about.
