Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

This has been a very challenging year for my students. As preschoolers, they are at the beginning of their academic journey and it has been difficult for some of them to get adjusted to a new daily routine. Now, they have been forced all of a sudden, to face a situation that has been hard even for us, as adults. They abruptly left behind their teachers, their friends and all that they considered their territory outside their home, their beloved school; another challenge, a new normal, a new everyday life to which they have to get adjusted again. Distance learning has started!

I am the person outside their home that has to provide them with experiences that allow their young minds to continue the beautiful journey of learning.

This is a huge responsibility and I would like to provide them with the necessary tools to success throughout the beginning of their academic life.

My Project

The last two months have been uncertain for all of us but mostly, for our young students. They left school abruptly and unprepared to be learning from home. They did not have the opportunity to take their school supplies with them. As mentioned before, the majority of my students are from low income households. This has made it difficult for them to have the necessary tools to engage in educational activities at home beyond those through the use of electronic devices provided by the school district.

It is very important for preschool students to have plenty of opportunities to participate in hands-on activities to stimulate their minds.

The materials I'm asking for will allow my students to complete writing assignments using hands-on, traditional, writing tools. The calendar book will give them a sense of time and also, the ability to practice their numbers. The play dough and Mini Magic Boards are age appropriate tools that will engage them into playing practices at home that will help them to stimulate their fine motor skills.
