Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My transitional kindergarten/kindergarten students will be given dedicated time to implement Lucy Caulkin's inspired Writer's Workshop. This is a district wide adopted pilot that will give my students the opportunity to become writers. I want to foster a love for writing with my youngest learner.

My students' ages range from 4 to 6, making them the youngest learners at our elementary school.

They are enrolled in a dual immersion program where 90% of the instructional day is taught in Spanish. In addition, our school is a title 1 school where 100% of our student population receive free lunch based on family income levels. Our school has one of the highest poverty levels based on federal requirements and my students deserve to have an abundance of materials available to them.

My Project

I am requesting materials that will allow my students to have an organized writing center with ample writing materials to help them become the best writers they can be. Everyday my students will be given ample time to write during "Writer's Workshop" inspired by the Common Core Workshop Curriculum Units of Study in Opinion, Information, and Narrative Writing by Lucy Caulkins. These materials include black and green felt tip pens, staplers, date stamps, post-it stickies, and paper with plastic drawers to organize so students can independently help themselves to these materials.

Every student in my classroom comes with unique experiences that they are eager to share with their classmates.

Getting these experiences down on paper and guiding them through their first year of writing by using pictures, letters/sounds, and words is very rewarding. I can't wait to see the published writing pieces that my students will produce with the requested materials. My students will also publish one of their pieces in a classroom book to be professionally published by studentreasures.
