My students need 2 lockable storage cabinets and surge protectors to protect their laptops, a digital frame to showcase work, and toner to print out their writing projects.
What is a finished work of art without an audience? My aspiring authors in creative writing can't wait to share their imaginative creations with anyone who will read them! They spend their days tapping away at keyboards or scribbling along sheets of paper, turning blank screens and pages into art.
As creative writing magnet students, my aspiring authors are a melting pot of socioeconomic backgrounds.
They are bused in from all corners of the city - some even riding the city bus for an hour just to come to our school to study creative writing! My kids are in mixed grade level classes of sixth, seventh and eighth graders. It's amazing how well they get along, regardless of age difference! They absolutely love to share their creative genius with each other and anyone who will take a moment to read their work.
My Project
While my students already have laptops, which were so generously donated last year, they do not have a secure place to store them. We would like for the laptops to last for years. A lockable storage cabinet with surge protectors is the perfect solution to make this happen.
In addition to the cabinet, my students need toner for their printer in order to print out their work. Instead of just having digital copies of their painstakingly written short stories and screenplays, they will have printed copies to share with their friends and family.
Finally, a digital screen would be used to showcase their work to fellow students and faculty passing by our room. Just because they're busy writing even more great works won't mean that we won't be able to share their writing with the rest of the school!
By donating the 2 lockable storage cabinets and surge protectors, our technology will become safe and last for years to come.
With the cabinet's security, our laptops will be available for use and able to change the lives of many students in the future.
With access to toner for the printer, the students will be able to see their published work in a professional format.
Showcasing their work in the digital frame will give them a sense of accomplishment and pride over their work.
