Can you imagine what it would be like for you to be dropped in a new country where you don't know the language or the customs? Now picture that happening when you were 5 and 6 years old! That is what life is like for many of my students.
I teach English as a second language to eager to learn, 5 and 6 year olds, from all over the world at their neighborhood Title 1 school.
They are immigrant students or students of immigrant parents who come from poverty and minimal means. Many of of my students are refuges whose parents have come to this country seeking a better life and opportunity for their children. My students are HARD workers, and they learn a lot in the year(s) they spend in my class.
My Project
I want to reduce the amount of paper my class consumes by integrating some reusable materials, Write & Wipe pockets, and technology, Boogie Boards in to my classroom. With these materials I will be able to practice new skills over and over again during our small group instruction time without worrying about copying costs or my classroom's carbon footprint.
I believe that this project will have a big impact in my classroom because we will be minimizing our paper usage while still maximizing our learning.
We will also be integrating technology into my students lives, an opportunity that some of my students have never had before they step into my room. Finally, we will become more conscious and responsible citizens of the world by. I love to tell my students, "Let's save the paper for all the books we will learn to read!"
