My Students
My students attend a school nestled in a small city neighborhood in Pennsylvania. The students attending my school are from an area marked by high poverty. These students are between first and third grade. The students in my room are students that are just below grade level in reading and math. The time for achievement gaps to close is running low. It is imperative that they see school as a positive space that respects and supports them.
It is increasingly important that these students know each and every day that poverty does not define them.
They deserve the best classroom experience. They need access to resources that support their education. These are the students that need a small push to feel and meet success.
My Project
Our students in K-2 are working hard as authors and illustrators. However, it is hard to write and illustrate the many genres of writing in a marble notebook. Students struggle to find their page, add illustrations and keep a title page in the notebook. In person, we would provide specialty writing paper, pens for making their writing pop, sticky notes to add thoughts, and paper clips to help keep stories together. That's all lost in the virtual world.
These supplies will bring the writing tools to the homes of each student and give them an authentic writing experience.
I'll be printing writing paper for them and adding it to the kits. We will then mail them to each home.
Not only will this give students a more authentic experience, it will help teachers be able to see the students' work. This is a small but mighty project!
