Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My primary students are energetic learners who have a thirst for learning. Living in an urban neighborhood, on the far south side of Chicago, our students have shown that they can face any challenges that come their way!

As their teacher, I want their learning environment to be welcoming and comfortable for all my little learners.

They like to move, they love to read, and love lots of positive attention. Many of them receive a free lunch based on their socioeconomic status. Luckily, from the minute they walk into our school, I focus on their future and make sure I meet all their needs. As their teacher, I try my best to be creative and positive, hoping to inspire my earliest learners to continue on a path of academic achievement.

My Project

Our students have missed so much during this pandemic. One of these areas that have gone by the wayside is writing. Many of my students have not been in a classroom since their kindergarten school year. That means holding a pencil, writing on paper, generating ideas, and publishing their stories to share with others.

This school year, I need to make sure that students get back to the basics of writing.

The materials I am asking for will assist the students in all areas of writing.

I chose a cute picture book that will help kick off our writing! They need to know that writing can always be improved. I want them to know that mistakes happen and as writers, we will keep improving over time! The folders will help keep their writing organized. It allows them to see the writing process and they can keep their drafts in the correct pockets. The word journals will assist in their spelling. It also gives lots of room to write new words that can continually be added throughout the year. The pencils and glue sticks are basic supplies that will be used during our writing time and help with our final publishing products. The bags will be used to hold the supplies.
