This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are 21st Century learners who are eager to use all of the technology available to them! I teach 30 curious, fourth grade scientists in a small, Title I school that has an amazing and supportive principal.

My students are eager to learn, and their brains are sponges that absorb any and all information given to them.

Everything is a potential investigation or experiment to them, so I strive to provide my students with as many learning and project-based opportunities as possible. I constantly enhance the school curriculum and students' intrinsic motivation to learn more by infusing STEM correlations whenever possible.

Because of our small school size, funding levels are not as high as other schools in our area. Grants and projects like this one become an integral part of how I obtain resources to supplement learning experiences. I truly believe that the future lies in our children, that they have virtually unlimited potential, and my job is to enable them to reach it.

My Project

"What should I write about? I don't have any ideas!" These are not what a teacher wants to hear as writer's workshop begins. I want to see smiles and maybe hear a giggle or two. My goal is to provide my students with rich writing experiences starting from the beginning.

Writing is a process that everyone works through, but isn't necessarily happy about.

The Writing Prompt Journals will help me to guide the children through the writing process in different genres, and give them ideas to spark their imagination. Students will get independent writing practice time using these journals and use the writing folders not only to keep their finished products, but they will be use as a resource as they contain tips and additional ideas to aide in the writing process.
