Help me give my students the opportunity to share their thinking and learning, while in a virtual setting.

My Students
I love that my students are resilient, positive, and very eager to continue learning. Remote learning was a very different and difficult transition for my students. The traumatic experiences caused by Covid 19 and social unrest, coupled with lack of computer/technology skills and equipment led to some students feeling unmotivated and less confident in their abilities. I start each class by asking my students “How do you feel and what makes you happy?” When I get responses like “You do, Ms. Bester” and “School makes me happy.”, it warms my heart. Their optimism and determination motivate me to do whatever I can to make their learning journeys a little easier.
My Project
I teach English Language Arts to students in Kindergarten through second grade and I am always looking for different ways to have my students show what they know in this remote setting. I chose the double sided dry erase boards to support students practicing writing their letters and names and responding to teacher prompts and questions, for quick formative assessments, and mindful activities like creative drawings. My students will keep and use the boards at home. This tool will allow my students to have a choice in demonstrating their understanding, thus it will support their academic and social emotional development.
