Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We are an inner-city school that serves a Latinx and African American student population. The majority of students qualify for free or reduced-price breakfast and lunch. Our classroom supports a range of talented students including English learners and students with exceptionalities.

Our students live in an underserved part of our city and are a diverse group of eager learners.

They come to school to learn and participate even when the harmful choices and the inaction of our elected officials create extra hurdles to their success.

My Project

I want to provide my students with resources to write letters. My plan is to write to all of my students and their families. Students will write a letter back to me that will serve as a time capsule. Their time capsules will include whatever message they want to write to themselves. They will seal the letters and send it back to me. Over the summer, I will mail them back their time capsules. By writing to my students and having them read their own reflections, I hope to show them how much they are cared for and how connected we are even though we are learning in a virtual moment. As a class, we have practiced writing emails. This project will give my students the opportunity to write real letters.
