My Students

My students are from low socioeconomic backgrounds in a small, neighborhood school. They are in a high risk, Title I school. They receive free breakfast and lunch, and we have many who participate in the Backpack Buddies Program.

Every day, these students walk into the classroom eager to learn.

They live in the digital age and embrace each new form of technology. We endure budget cuts every year, leaving the students to go without many resources that aid their success.

My Project

Help me give my students whiteboards, markers and math manipulatives. The use of whiteboards is almost a daily activity in my classroom. The whiteboards allow me to see exactly what the students are doing. They can share their work by holding the boards up in class or showing work through a laptop camera. The students will need several markers to use with the boards. The linking cubes can be put in individual sets for the students to keep at their desks or for use at home. Manipulatives will help children develop the ability and confidence to find their way around in each of these areas, see how they connect, and know what to do should they forget a fact or procedure when solving problems. The students have very few supplies at home and if they are learning remotely they need supplies that will make their learning experience feel like they are in a school setting. By donating to our project, you will not only help to improve and increase student attention and focus, you will ultimately help to increase their academic achievement. My students have spent a year at home with limited materials to use; many only being able to watch on as others work using materials. These materials are essential for success.
