Many students dislike reading and writing because they have felt unsuccessful in the past. By the end of the year, I want my students to not only succeed, but to enjoy reading and writing independently and with their peers.
As a teacher in a Title 1 STEM school, many of my students come from areas of high-poverty.
Despite their obstacles, they are always so eager to learn. The staff and administration at my school realize that even with the hardships that many of our students face, the teachers can aid them in their journey to success. My students come to school looking for a place to feel safe, and motivated while they are growing academically.
My Project
The requested leveled readers, whiteboards, writing materials, and at-your-seat storage will benefit my students exponentially.
My students will use the at-your-seat storage to keep their reading and writing materials organized. All of my students are on different reading levels. With the leveled readers and storage pockets, I can easily differentiate the books they are reading independently. As a new teacher, I do not have many books for each reading level. The students will be able to choose their own book (at their actual reading level) and can read their book without becoming frustrated.
Their personal whiteboards will be used for quick-assessment and kept in their storage pockets. This will keep their desks organized without the clutter!
Last but not least, the writing station will be used daily to reinforce writing skills. They are expected to write informative, narrative, and opinion pieces in 2nd grade. I think this will motivate them to write as much as possible!
All of the materials requested will aid my students toward success.
They will help us learn together as a community and stay organized in the process. Teaching is a true passion of mine, and I want help my students find their passions in life.
