My students are a fun group of creative and active fifth graders. We live in a rural, isolated village in northwest Alaska, where many students practice subsistence hunting and fishing to support their families. Most of my students are Native Alaskan and are taught traditional native values.
My students love playing sports, hunting caribou, riding snow machines and four-wheelers, going ice fishing, and sledding.
My students are a diverse group, with strong ties to their families, their culture, and the land. In the classroom, they are an energetic group that enjoys working in groups, doing hands-on activities, and playing goofy games.
My Project
My students write in their journals every day in my class. We also do art projects every week together. Some of my students really look forward to this art and writing time and are very creative. Others could really use some more creative ideas to get them creating and writing at home.
These journals are filled with amazing, fun writing and art prompts that students can do at home with their families.
Because of COVID-19, students have spent more time at home than ever over the last year. These journals will be a fun way for them to pass the time and work their creative minds, all while spending quality time with their families. Help me to give this gift to my kids!
