WOW! Look at My Art Project Scanned on My All in One Printer
My students need an in class printer with black and multi-color ink to reproduce our art and class work; we are creating art through social studies projects.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are bright, inquisitive, and love music and art. These are inner city high school students who very rarely leave their neighborhoods in the 5 boroughs. When they enter the class they ask, "what are we doing today?" I make sure that each lesson has functional 'real world' meaning.
We are a Special Education High School in Harlem with students with multiple disabilities.
To broaden the students' view of their world I introduced a collaborative program with the Studio Museum in Harlem. We created a cross curriculum approach using art/math/social studies/science/literacy/ and technology. It is important that my classes are ready for the 21st century. I want to empower them to use critical thinking skills by creating a student-centered environment. When the classes take ownership over their work, they produce a higher quality product. They are able to work peer to peer and use self analysis to formulate their next project. We are a work study school, with the students participating in many Harlem community programs including retail stores, day care centers and food pantries. All of these activities create an environment where the student feels useful and learns skills that can easily be transferred to the work environment after they graduate.
My Project
My students need a functional copier and scanner in the classroom to assist with reproducing their work. We take photographs in the community using my personal camera or school iPads, but are unable to do any printing. Our school has a limited budget which did not allow for toner cartridges or replacing non-functional copiers. This has severely impacted our ability to produce completed packages of student work. We will be able to scan our original work in "living color" and have a colorful product using color cartridges.
The students also do art work which they want to take home to their families. With an in-class all in one copier we can scan and reproduce work for students to share with relatives. This promotes high self-esteem when the families come to open school day and report how much they appreciate having their child's work at home. We also need art paper and drawing materials, but at this point, an all in one copier is necessary to the success of our program.
The students are going to create books about themselves based on community walks, museum projects, and in-class work.
With a copier/scanner they can share these with the school community and their families. The students will have a visual keepsake of their work in my class. Hopefully they will realize how much they are able to accomplish, and be able to use the skills outside of the school community. The students told me how much the photography and art have added to their lives.
