My students need high interest books and a projector screen to follow along with the work.
FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Grelis's classroom raised $961

My students open my mind every day, and I try to do the same for them. I teach English to immigrant students from Western Africa, Cambodia, and Vietnam. Many have not been in school due to civil wars.
My students love reading, but find it challenging to finish a book that is, in their words, "stupid," "boring," "corny," or "too hard." If they can read about kids their age facing similar problems, I feel they will develop a love of reading.
These English Language Learners will achieve success with a little help from you. If we had great books to study they will help foster their interest in reading. Students will begin to love reading time in class. My students have begun to enjoy reading but to achieve success they need to love reading.
My young men have worked hard to achieve academic success and need just a little bit of a push to send them soaring. While their academic goal is to gain two years of reading growth, in reality the ability to read on a second and third grade level will enable them to function more independently and allow them to practice the skills they've been learning.
Now I need cool books! Stargirl and Speak are both about teenagers facing the challenges of adolescence. When students read about kids their age, they get more meaning out of the stories. In order for the students to get the most out of the readings, I need an overhead screen and cart to reinforce the elements of literature.
You will make it possible for my English Language Learners to feel comfortable reading in English and empower them to continue reading for life.
