This year, my class is made up of a group of 23 amazing, creative 6th graders. They come from diverse backgrounds, many from low income families, and will come to my class with very different needs academically.
My goal for these students is for them to develop a love for reading by providing them with books that reflect who they are and are relatable to them.
Many of the students in my class do not read everyday, and I know they will be excited about being able to read the same book as their peer group and share their thoughts about it!
My Project
These books will continue to enhance the print-rich classroom that I strive to create. My classroom library is a place that my students really enjoy! They especially enjoy when I read aloud to them. By placing a copy of these books in the hands of each of my students, you will be encouraging them to read independently and improve their comprehension skills. We will be able to read these titles together as a whole class and in small groups. Students will be able to have their copy of the text to refer back to as we participate in class discussions and book talks.
With these new books, my students will also be able to read texts that reflect who they are and the world they live in.
By putting these books in their hands, you will be encouraging students to read more often, and become engaged readers!
