Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

In November, our country will be voting for the President. My students need to follow the process every step of the way. This opportunity is so valuable. Throughout the year, many other news stories will be brought into the classroom. Help me give the students their very own news magazine.

My students live in a low-income neighborhood and do not have daily newspapers in their homes.

Scholastic News is a resource that I can send home with my students. After we use it, I insist that the magazine is brought home and the children share it with their parents. I cannot ask the children to bring the money for this, so I must reach out and ask for help. The children I teach truly want to come to school and learn. They are like sponges and will absorb what I teach. They don't have a lot of supplies and resources at home, and they truly appreciate whatever I give to them.

My Project

Scholastic News let's the children read about world issues in a kid-friendly format. They can learn new vocabulary, answer questions about the articles, and share their own opinions about what they are reading. This weekly magazine comes directly to my classroom. Every student gets their very own copy. They can highlight, underline, and write directly on the magazine. This is very rare, because they are not given many books that they are allowed to write in. The non-fiction, news articles are of high-interest to both the girls and the boys. I have used Scholastic News for over 10 years and it is a wonderful addition to my Social Studies curriculum.

Please donate to this proposal and help bring this invaluable resource into my classroom.

I bring so much to my classroom and buy many, many supplies for the boys and girls. I sometimes must reach out and ask for assistance. I am asking right now. The children and I will greatly appreciate it.
