Help me give my students the instruments needed to study world drumming. Instruments like talking drums and gonkogwe instigate conversations about different cultures and their experience with music.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The students I work with have never had a music program in their school. We are working together to build a program designed around the culture of the school and the interests of the students.
We started this year with an empty room and have been gradually adding instruments as we go in order to build different ways of learning about music.
Students in all levels, from ECE to 5th grade, find joy and excitement through playing instruments, singing songs, dancing, and exploring music. Many of our students are enamored when they get to do anything as simple as touch the keys of a piano. Music has been proven to improve test scores and strengthen the learning of our students and it is something that has been taken away from many of the students in underfunded schools throughout Denver. With your help we can create a program designed around our students' needs with the variety of instruments they deserve.
My Project
The world drumming curriculum builds respect and community in the classroom while also exploring different rhythms and textures in music. Students will play in and lead drums circles with their peers and perform music while learning rhythm, beat, and teamwork.
Students learn to listen to their peers, express themselves, and be part of a team all while exploring world cultures and playing instruments they have never heard of before.
This type of exploration builds lifelong music lovers along with the environments not only in the classroom but throughout the school. Help our students explore this type of playing and community building with instruments to showcase the dynamic variety of world cultures.
