Dwight D. Eisenhower Elementary is one of the five Algiers Charter Schools I am privileged to serve. The inclusive philosophy of ACSA is one to be proud of, especially during this time of continuing healing in the New Orleans area. What makes Eisenhower stand out even more in the ACSA is the racial diversity of it's population. Vietnamese, Hispanic, and African American children have healthy representations in numbers here, melding into a unified mutually supportive community.
In recognition of the diversity of its population, the administration has chosen to designate Eisenhower as an "Academy of World Studies". As art teacher, I would like to support and encourage this philosophy fully in my instruction. Supplemental materials are needed to pursue projects that can fully allow children to recognize the artistic richness of different cultures of the world and express themselves and their ethnicities.
Through Donors Choose, I hope to provide Eisenhower's students with visual enrichments and materials to create Chinese calligraphy, ink & watercolor scrolls, African masks, multicultural crafts and scenes in which people and cultures of all races are represented.
