World Changing Supplies Needed!

My students need whiteboard markers to help practice problems, ACT prep books to continue practicing in the summer, and study strategy books.

My Students

My students are motivated to change the world! However, access to essential supplies has prevented them from being able to reach their full potential!

This year I have the opportunity to teach the first ACT/College Prep class a rural high school school in the heart of the Mississippi Delta.

It has been a challenge to deeply invest my students in the completing the rigorous work necessary to be successful in college. However, the growth that I have seen in my students this year is remarkable. This fall they wrote their Common Application essays, and we are currently working on analyzing nonfiction articles to write a college level research paper. The ACT World Changers of room 27 have grown tremendously this year and are now invested and dedicated to learning even more!

My Project

I want my students to have the opportunity to continue their learning and studying for the ACT this summer. Since many of my students do not have access to Internet at home, and the closest book store is over an hour away, I want to provide my underclassmen with ACT prep books to continue practicing this summer. In my ACT prep class I have seven seniors. I want to give each senior a book to help them stay organized in college and learn strategies to help them succeed. When I was in college I worked in the Learning Strategies Lab and we taught Cal Newport's curriculum from How to Become a Straight-A Student. This book will help my seniors plan for success next year when they step onto their respective college campuses! Additionally, in order to prepare for the ACT and practice the skills necessary to do well in college we are constantly using whiteboard markers to complete problems! Without these markers we won't have the opportunity to quickly practice problems!

My students are dedicated to making the world a better place.

They do not have the same opportunities or resources as students from more affluent backgrounds and your help is desperately needed to make sure that they can change the world for the better. The ACT prep books, study skill books, and whiteboard markers will give my students access to the resources that they need to succeed!
