My Students
Help us learn to read better and faster!! I teach my students in differentiated small groups all day long. One of the things that we find ourselves lacking is materials for quality reading group time. We need readable texts with which we can practice our new skills.
I teach in a Title 1 school that serves a wide variety of students.
We have many students who are learning English for the first time. We serve 50% of our students free or reduced priced breakfast and lunch. I teach students who come from good families who only want the best for their kids. My students work hard to meet my high expectations and know that they have my support and the support of their families.
My Project
My reading groups have run through the reading materials that we have available to us. We need new books that are on their reading levels to use in our guided reading groups. I found a set of word family readers that will be perfect for this purpose. Not only will these books help them with their new reading skills, but also with understanding how words work.
Each set of books focuses on a particular word family. So, once they understand how that word family works and makes many similar rhyming words, they will be able to read the text fluently while their brains work quickly to change the beginning sounds on the word family words in the text. I think these materials will be just what my students need to push them to the next level in reading.
This project is important to us because without quality texts to read during reading group time, my teaching and their practice is less effective and efficient.
We need these books to help us continue to have quality reading group sessions that move them along in their reading progress.
