My Students
"When spiders' webs unite, they can tie down a lion." Everyone knows how important science education is in today's schools but success only occurs when students come together as a community of learners. Our students should have access to resources that help facilitate this type of collaboration
My school is truly unique.
We are a 90% low income urban high school that, after opening 3 years ago, has drawn students from all over the city. In doing so, we have become one of the most diverse schools as well. The 2012-2013 school year will be the first time that we have a full building and we are pleased with the opportunities that we have offered students as our school and student population has grown.
The teachers and administrators at my school believe that all students deserve a strong education. Therefore, we look to embed in our students the skills that they will need to be successful in high school, college, and as working citizens. We scaffold skills throughout students' four years to make sure they are challenged to develop problem solving and critical thinking skills. As with all schools, we need the technology and resources that are required to help student achieve their goals through education.
My Project
The ELMO Wireless Tablet would allow my students and me to access information from anywhere in the classroom. By doing so, I would be able to give students more of the one-on-one attention that they require. Additionally, by simply passing around the tablet, students would be able to answer questions, complete practice problems, and edit each others' work from their seats. Doing so would encourage the cooperation that is required to create a classroom of learners; something that is pertinent to students reaching their maximum potential.
Many of my students come from environments where the odds of success are against them.
They have already made the choice to change those odds by dedicating themselves to learning and choosing an environment that can help them do so. These students deserve our support by offering them access to the technology and resources that can help them achieve their goals.
More than half of students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
