This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I am extremely lucky to work with so many different families from so many different backgrounds. PS/MS 20 happens to be in a very diverse and multicultural area of the Bronx. Unfortunately, immigration and COVID have hit our communities hard and many of our very young students are dealing with trauma they do not understand and the inability to self-soothe and self-regulate their emotions. We have recognized that traumatized and disregulated brains cannot learn effectively. The goal of this project is to supply not only the support staff but the teachers and paraprofessionals with the tools to recognize the challenges in our students and to create support systems right in the classrooms.
