Help me give my students a better understanding of their emotions by helping me buy the Learning to Get Along Learning set as well as various fidgets to help them work through strong emotions.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Every day these first grade students start with eating breakfast in the classroom. We then have our phonics lesson, language arts, math, and end the day with science. For the majority of my students, English is their second language. They love to listen to their home language represented during the school day.
This school is a Title I school.
Many students come from disadvantaged homes. The classroom consists of multinational and multilingual students. They love to learn and get very excited when they discover new things.
My Project
Many of my students spent their Kindergarten year learning at home. Their First Grade year is not only making up for lost academic learning through the pandemic, but also learning how to get along in a room of 25 students. There are a lot of strong emotions. The Dealing with Feelings and Learning to Get Along book sets will help enhance Morning Meeting discussions. The Weighted Lap pad will help students sit a little longer and listen to teaching. The Sensory Spheres, Sensory Beads, and Sensory Shapes will help students work through strong emotions. The Hoberman Sphere will help the whole class when doing belly breathing exercises when working through anxious feelings. We also spend time online on individualized math and reading programs which also give instruction in their home language. The headphones will help students hear their individualized learning experiences.
