This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach Reading and Writing to two classes. My students love to explore and are very curious, but unfortunately, many of them are far below the second grade reading level. So because this year we are going to continue exploring ways that they can do their best independent learning, they need all the time they can get to use their online programs. We are going to explore project-based learning so that each student can persevere and excel. My students' abilities range widely, but I want to be able to provide an inclusive environment that adapts to each student's needs.

My school is located in the inner city.

There are about 900 students in grade PreK-5. Most of my students live in low-income households. Many are starting out the year below grade level, and we will be working on ways to improve their reading skills and comprehension. Our school is overcrowded, and my students will have to spend most of the day in our room. They will have to find new ways to learn and concentrate on their work independently. However, they are all eager and excited to learn, especially when it comes to choosing their own learning.

My Project

My students need new technology that works all the time. The school has been generous to provide technology for all students, but the devices don't work consistently.

My students can't always go online because of malfunctioning devices.

They can't always do their work on Google classroom, Lexia, or RAZ Kids because of the devices. I want to make sure that they are able to be productive and prepared for their future education.

This new Chromebook will help my students to get their work done efficiently and help them to be prepared. They will learn and research so much using this Chromebook and will definitely grow as a result.
