Thankful everyday for the privilege to teach such a diverse group of learners. We come together on a daily basis, learning from one another.
We are a public community school, where parents who once attended are now bringing their own children.
Our students grow up in a unique walking/biking community made up of 700 students grades 3 - 5. I have personally had the privilege of teaching numerous siblings and have come to know many families in this tight-nit community. This is a wonderful group of learners who are future leaders.
Continual encouragement is imperative, so they can become the best learner they can be. With various backgrounds, they all encompass the need to grow and learn so they can become a competitive, functioning citizen.
My Project
School days can be long, but especially when a student is hungry. Often, students come to school with little breakfast, and sometimes no breakfast at all. As lunch nears, sometimes that is all they can think about. This is why a "working snack", often using dry erase markers and boards for a quick check of understanding, is embedded withing our class schedule.
However, many students come to school without a snack.
I do my best to ensure basic needs are met, knowing it is a must in order for students to truly be able to focus and learn. But, this can get costly, and sometimes we run out before I realize or before I'm able to make another shopping trip.
This year, I would like to do an even better job of ensuring all students are continually on task, without the distraction of watching others enjoy a quick snack break while they sit with a hungry tummy. Funding this project will help me do just that! Thank you, in advance.
