This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are so diverse and interesting that to describe them is really hard. Students come from a variety of different economic backgrounds. Our school is also one of the most ethnically diverse schools in Washington. Students speak a multitude of languages including English, Spanish, Somali, and Vietnamese. As diverse as our students are economically and culturally, they are diverse in their academics.

My students walk into our classroom every day full of life, ready to learn and excited for what is in store for them that day.

I want them to know I believe in them and they can do anything.

My Project

Our school days are busy ones. We try to pack in so much in what seems like such a short amount of time.

However, in the fourth and fifth grades, we still need to meet some of the most basic needs.

We need to make sure our fourth and fifth graders are well fed and energized in order to learn and build stamina. Our school supplies a few of these opportunities for our students to fill their bellies. We provide free breakfast and free lunch to all students- that is remarkable. However, with the long stretch in the afternoons from our morning lunch to our dismissal time, it can be difficult for 9-11-year-olds to endure and keep focused. Mood changes and work becomes harder since they are focused on being hungry and not on academics. Our snack supply is running low and almost depleted. We are asking for granola bars, pretzels, and fruit snacks to offer students needing this extra energy throughout the day. We are also asking for some sweet treats for our students to reward their hard work and dedication in school. Thank you for considering our project!
