Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach a life skills class with 8 boys and 1 girl. My students are unique learners. I have 2 students who have Down syndrome, 5 students with autism and 2 who are developmentally delayed. They are all unique in their own ways. Four of my students are verbal and the other five are nonverbal. I have three students who are in kindergarten, two in 1st grade, two in 2nd grade and two in 3rd grade. It is hard for them to express their wants and needs, as students with disabilities struggle with academics and motor skills.
My students need help because they are unable to communicate their wants and needs.
Our school is a Title I school where 100% of the students receive free breakfast and lunch. Fifty percent of my students come from single-parent homes.
My Project
My students will be attending school from home. The Draw and Write Journal will help them as they draw and write how they feel during the day after working from home. They will use magnetic numbers when working on math. Some of my students are non verbal, by having magnetic board they will be able to work on their assignment and show me what they are working on without dropping their things. My students need things to work from home during the COVID 19 that they can do with their hands. I also need to set up a classroom atmosphere in my home that will make easier for them to stay focussed. Things that will make them feel like they are at school and should be working. The supplies that I have ordered will keep them learning virtually during the COVID 19.
