This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I have the privilege of teaching third graders in all core subjects. I have known almost my entire class since they were in kindergarten. I have watched them grow into responsible and caring individuals that support each other.
My third graders are bursting with curiosity and the will to learn as much as they can.
They are strong willed and filled with personality. Although they are chatty, they are often helping each other learn and asking questions.
My students attend a high poverty school with Title I services. English language learners make up half of our student population. What our school lacks in resources, we make up for in determination to succeed.
My Project
Our district has been remote learning since March. My students have been reading and completing work on screens since then. I am looking forward to a time when I can give them books and magazines that they can hold in their hands and read.
This Storyworks subscription will provide each of my students with a tangible magazine they can read that includes fiction and nonfiction texts.
The Storyworks magazine also has read-aloud plays, various genres, puzzles, videos, and skill based activities. They are such a well-rounded resource!
This magazine subscription will make a difference in my students' learning by giving them a way to enjoy reading again like they used to. They will be able to turn the pages and flip through the magazine. I do plan to use some of the texts as learning opportunities to teach about different genres and get students interested in expanding the types of books they read. For the most part, I want to expose my students to the different types of genres and writing that are out there that they have been missing out on. My goal is to share the joy of reading with them.
