Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are very special to me and the community at PS. 126, not only because of their diverse backgrounds but also for their independent and creative personality. In my school, there are approximately 615 students enrolled each year. These students come from diverse backgrounds, from African to Asia, and from South America to the Caribbean. The neighborhood is mostly inhabited by a large Hispanic population and African - American population. Parents are very supportive of their children's education and are always present in school events and trips. My school is a great help for the community, specially for our students' parents. At P.S. 126x there are a variety of activities and events that are open for parents and the community. Among these are movie nights, parents night, Field day, music concerts, and Awards ceremonies. At PS. 126x, we work together with our students to bring awareness to our community. One example of this is the breast cancer awareness walk, held every year during the month of October.
As the Art teacher at my school I want to expand my students' learning in visual arts by providing them with tools and resources to make connection in life.
My Project
"Working Big" is a project that helps my students apply their skills to real-life situations.
By creating big murals and posters students are working in works of art that are used throughout the year to build school environment.
Big projects and murals help my students to use their skills in organization of space, scale, balance and color selection of their piece.
The markers and tempera paints in this project are essential to my students' success in completing big works of art that carry with them a strong message and an specific function. I strongly believe in allowing my students work big their big ideas.
